*1. Why was Mrs Pumphrey worried about
Tricki?*
Ans. Mrs Pumphrey was worried about Tricki because he was unwell. He had refused to eat food and was vomiting. She felt that he was suffering from a serious health issue such as malnutrition.
*2. Why does Mrs Pumphrey think the dog’s
recovery is ‘a triumph of surgery’?*
Ans. Mrs Pumphrey thinks that Tricki’s recovery is a triumph of surgery because his illness was very serious. She thought that there were very few chances to improve Tricki’s health and he needed immediate medical attention. Thus, his recovery without any medical treatment was a great achievement.
*3. Why was Mr. Herriot shocked at Tricki’s
appearance?*
Ans. Dr Herriot was shocked at Tricki's appearance because he had become hugely fat. His eyes looked bloodshot and his tongue lolled from his jaws. He could walk with difficulty.
*4. From which real disease was Tricki
suffering?*
Ans. His real disease was that he was
overfed and he didn't deny any food which was given by his mistress. Tricki's disease was vomiting due to overfeeding.
*5. Why is Mr. Herriot tempted to keep Tricki on as a permanent guest?*
1. What was the main reason for Tricki's illness?
Ans: Tricki’s main fault was his greed. He never refused food and would tackle a meal at any hour of the day or night.
2. How did Tricki behave at the hospital for the first two days?
Ans: For the first two days, Tricki was kept only on water. He lay motionless on the carpet, showing no interest in his surroundings or the other dogs.
3. What does the title "A Triumph of Surgery" mean?
Ans: It means a victory of medical practice. Mrs. Pumphrey thought Tricki was cured by a complex surgery, but in reality, he was cured simply by a proper diet and exercise.
*1. Give a brief character sketch of
Tricki.*
Ans. Tricki was a small dog. His rich
mistress Mrs. Pumphrey loved him like her son. She had many
beds, clothes and bowls for him. Due to overfeeding he became hugely fat like a bloadted sausage. Dr. Herriot knew that Tricki’s real disease was overfeeding. He had lost
all his energy. Mr. Herriot took him to his clinic and cut down his extra things to eat. Tricki's mistress sent eggs and wine for him. But Mr. Herriot did not give him all these
things. He used these things himself with his friends. He only gave him plenty of water for two days. Tricki
regained energy and enjoyed playing with other dogs. And thus he was recovered from
his illness without any medical treatment.
