Ans. Johnsy and Sue were two young artists. They shared a small room on the third floor of an old house. Johnsy fell ill in November. She had pneumonia.

Ans. The whole story is based on the last leaf. In the beginning the falling last leaf is associated with johnsy's ailments and her approaching death. From the window Johnsy watched that creeper. Johnsy got a fancy that she would also die when the last leaf fell. Behrman came to know about this fancy. He painted a leaf on the wall. Behraman's last leaf conveys the message of courage, hope and optimism. The last leaf saves Johnsy life. Thus the last leaf is an appropriate title for the story.
