Ans. Yes, he arrives safe. The Pilot of another strange plane helps him to get out of the cloud storm safely. No one knew who the pilot of the other plane was and where the plane was.

Q. 2 “I’ll take a risk.” What is the risk? Why does the narrator take it?

Ans. The author wanted to get home to be present at the breakfast table. He wanted to fly the old Dakota aeroplane through the storm clouds. So he took the risk of flying straight into the storm cloud.

Q. 3 What made the woman in the control room look at the narrator strangely?

Ans. After landing, the narrator asked about the mysterious aeroplane that had guided him through the dark clouds. But no other plane was seen on the radar that night except the narrator’s old Dakota.. That is why she looked at him strangely.

Q. 4 Recount the experience of the pilot of the Dakota inside the black clouds.

Ans. The pilot found that everything was black inside the clouds. It was impossible to see anything outside the aeroplane. The old aeroplane rolled and jumped in the air. The compass and other instruments stopped working. Suddenly his radio also went dead.

Q. 5 How did the black aeroplane rescue the first pilot?

Ans. The pilot of the black aeroplane waved his hand. He gestured to the first pilot to follow him. The writer followed him. He followed the black plane for half an hour. Suddenly, his plane was out of the clouds. He could see the lights of the airport and landed his aeroplane. In this way, the black aeroplane rescued the first pilot.

Q. 6 Describe the black clouds from the point of view of the pilot.

Ans. The writer was going from France to England. He was flying his Dakota aeroplane. When he had gone 150 km from Paris, he saw storm clouds. They were huge. They looked like black mountains standing in front of him across the sky.

Q.7  How did the black aeroplane help the pilot of the old Dakota?

Ans: When the narrator was lost in the dark storm clouds, the black aeroplane appeared next to him. Its pilot lifted his hand to follow him. He turned his plane slowly to the north, in front of the old Dakota, making it easy for the narrator to follow. The narrator followed him like an obedient child. Thus the black aeroplane helped the pilot of the old Dakota.

Long-Answer

Q. 1 Discuss the element of mystery in the story 'The Black Aeroplane'.

Ans: "The Black Aeroplane" is a mystery story. The narrator is flying his old Dakota plane toward England when he gets trapped inside black clouds. Suddenly, all his instruments, including the compass and radio, go completely dead. Out of nowhere, a mysterious black aeroplane appears beside him.

The mystery deepens because this plane has no lights on its wings, yet the narrator can clearly see the pilot’s face. The strange pilot guides the narrator safely through the storm to an airport runway. However, when the narrator lands and inquires at the control tower center, the woman on duty checks the radar and reveals that no other plane was flying in the storm that night. The identity of the black aeroplane and its pilot remains an unsolved mystery.

3. Two Stories of Flying
I- His First Flight (Liam O’ Flaherty)
