Ans.
On his way to the fair the child sees toys, balloons of different colours,
garland of gulmohur, a swing and a snake-charmer playing a flute. He gets
attracted towards all these things. So, he lags behind.

Ans.
The child went to a fair with his parents. He wanted garlands, balloons and
sweets over there. He also wanted to see the snake and take a ride on the
swing.

interest in the things that he had wanted earlier?
Ans.
The lost child loses interest in the things he had wanted earlier because he
got lost in the fair. He is panic-stricken for being lost. Now he first wants
his parents. He is afraid and feels unsafe.

Ans.
The man in the shrine rescued the lost child. He lifted him up in his arms and
tried to soothe him. He took him to the nearest roundabout swing and offered to
buy him flowers, balloons and sheets.

Grandfather bought Toto from a tonga-driver for five rupees. The tonga-driver
kept the monkey tied to a feeding-trough. It looked so out of place there that
grandfather decided he would add it to his private zoo.

Toto was a pretty monkey with bright eyes sparkling with mischief, pearly white
teeth, quick and wicked fingers and a gracious tail which served as a third
hand. His cute smile used to frighten elderly Anglo- Indian ladies.

Toto takes bathe in a tub' of warm water. It puts its legs in the water one by
one and applies soap as well. As monkeys are good at aping others, so Toto has
learnt proper steps of bathing while watching the narrator doing the same.

Ans.
Grandfather sold Toto back to the tonga-driver. This was because Toto was a
very naughty and mischievous monkey and troubled the entire family a lot. He
caused a great deal of loss in dishes, clothes, curtains, wallpaper and other
household items.
5. Why was Toto’s presence kept a
secret from the writer’s grandmother?
Ans.
Toto's presence was kept a secret as the narrator's grandmother did not like
pets and she would've not accepted Toto as a pet in the house. Therefore,Toto
was kept in a closet and was tied to a peg fastened to a wall.
