1.  The Lost Child (Mulk Raj Anand)

 

1. What changes do you notice in the behaviour of the child, once he is separated from his parents in the story “The Lost Child” ?

Ans. A child along with his parents had gone to a fair. He was very excited and happy with the stalls of toys and sweets. He wants many things as toys, garlands, sweets etc. He was looking all these things and lagged behind. He gets separated from his parents and starts crying. He runs hither and thither in search of his parents, but in vain. Since the place was overcrowded he got real scared.  A kind hearted man offers him many things. The child who wanted everything from the fair was now not interested in any of these things as he only saying 'I want my mother, I want my father.'

 

 

2. The Adventures of Toto (Ruskin Bond)

 

1. Describe in brief, the adventures of Toto, the money.

Ans. Toto was a pretty monkey. Grandfather bought him from a tonga-driver for tive rupees. Toto was a pretty monkey with bright eyes sparkling with mischief, pearly white teeth, quick and wicked fingers and a gracious tail which served as a third hand. His cute smile used to frighten elderly Anglo- Indian ladies. At first, Toto was kept in a little store. It opened into the narrator’s bedroom. Here Toto removed the wallpaper and tore the narrator’s school blazer. Now Toto was transferred to his grandfather’s private zoo. Here monkeys did not allow the animals to sleep in peace at night. One day he threw the plate and broke it into pieces. Toto takes bathe in a tub' of warm water. It puts its legs in the water one by one and applies soap as well. Grandfather sold Toto back to the tonga-driver. This was because Toto was a very naughty and mischievous monkey and troubled the entire family a lot.

 

 

4. In the Kingdom of Fools (A. K. Ramanujan)

 

1. How does the guru manage to save his disciple’s life?

Ans. The king ordered to execute the disciple. He prayed to his Guru to save him. The Guru heard his prayer in his vision and appeared to rescue his disciple. He told the king that it was not an ordinary stake. Whoever went first would become the king in the next life. The second person to go would become his minister. But the king wanted to take advantage of this opportunity so he let them go. Then, when they were released, it turned out that the guru had managed to save his disciple’s life.

4. 1. Describe how Prashant reached his village after the cyclone. How he helped himself and other at the time of flood? 

Ans. Prashant took a long stick and started his 18 kms journey to his village. He used the stick to know the level of the water and locate the road through the flood waters. At several places, he had to swim when he lost the road. In every village he passed, he could hardly see a house standing. Prashant was at his friend's house when the storm struck Orissa. Prashant had to spend two nights on the open rooftop in the rain due to the flood. He survived by eating the coconuts from a tree that had fallen on the roof.
