10th- Moral Stories
*Story- Union is Strength*
Once there lived an old farmer. He had four
sons. They always quarrelled among themselves. The farmer advised them but in
vain. One day the farmer fell ill. He was on the bed of death. He called his
sons. He wanted to teach them a lesson. He asked them to bring a bundle of
sticks. Then he asked them to break the bundle. Each of them tried but no one
could break the bundle. The farmer asked them to untie the bundle. He asked
them to break the stick one by one. Now each of them broke the sticks easily.
Then the farmer said to them, "if you are united, nobody can harm you. If
you quarrel, you will suffer." The sons learnt a lesson. They never
quarrelled again
Moral: Union is strength.
*The Lion and the Mouse*
It was a hot summer day. A lion was sleeping
under a tree. A mouse lived in a hole nearby. It came out and started jumping
on the lion's body. The lion woke up. He caught the mouse in his paw. The mouse
cried for mercy. He requested the lion to let him go. The lion showed pity and
let the mouse go. Many days passed. A hunter came to the forest. He cast his
net. The lion was caught in the net. He began to roar. The same little mouse
heard the roar of the lion. The mouse came there and cut the net with its sharp
teeth. The lion was free. He thanked the mouse.
Moral: Do good, have good.
*Story- The Rabbit and the Tortoise*
A hare and a tortoise were fast friend. The
hare was proud of his speed. One day, he laughed at the tortoise for his slow
speed. He said, "Dear friend, let us run a race." The tortoise
accepted the challenge. Next morning, the race began. A winning post was fixed.
The hare ran very fast. He was soon out of sight. 'The tortoise was left far
behind. He decided to take rest for a while. He lay down under a shady tree. He
soon fell fast asleep. The tortoise went on slowly and steadily. He saw the
hare sleeping. But he did not stop. He reached the winning post. At sun-set the
hare woke up and ran fast. The tortoise was already there. The hare had lost
the race.
Moral: Slow and steady wins the race.
*Story- Honesty is the Best Policy*
Once a
wood-cutter was cutting a tree on the bank of a river. By chance his axe fell
into the water. He began to weep. The god mercury appeared before him and said,
"Why are you weeping?'' The wood-cutter told him the whole story. The god
dived into the water. Soon he came out with a golden axe. The wood-cutter said,
''It is not my axe. My axe was not so beautiful." Then the god dived
again. This time he came out with a silver axe. The wood-cutter said," it
is not mine. My axe was not so shining." The god dived for the third time.
He came out with an iron axe. The wood-cutter felt very happy. He said,
"This axe is mine". The god was pleased at his honesty. He gave him
all the three axes as a reward.
Moral: Honesty is the best policy.
*Story- No Pain, No Gain*
Once there was an old farmer. He had four
sons. They were very lazy. He wanted to teach them the value of hard work. One
day the farmer fell ill. He was on death bed. He called his sons and said
"There is a treasure in the field. Dig it out after my death." Soon
the farmer died. After the death of their father, they went to the field. They
dug it from one end to another. But they found no treasure. They became sad. An
old man saw them digging the ground. He knew what their father meant to say. He
advised them to sow seeds. They acted upon his advice. They reaped a good
harvest. They became rich. Thus, they learnt the value of hard work.
Moral No pain, no gain.
*Story- Bad Company*
Once a boy fell into bad company. He mixed
with bad boys and wasted his time. It pained his father. He tried his best to
set him right, but all in vain. One day the father thought of a plan. He bought
some fresh apples from the bazaar. He brought one rotten apple also. He said to
his son, "Put all these apples in the basket.'' The boy did so.
Next day, the father asked him to bring the
apples. The boy was surprised to see the apples. They were all rotten. The
father said, "One rotten apple has spoiled all the good ones. Bad friends
are like bad apples. They will spoil you." These words worked like magic.
The boy gave up bad company.
Moral: Better alone than in a bad company.
*Story: Greed is Curse*
Once there lived a farmer in a village. He had
a wonderful hen. The hen gave him a golden egg daily. The farmer sold the egg
every day. Soon he became a rich man. He became greedy also. He thought that
there must be a storehouse of golden eggs inside the hen. He wanted to have all
the eggs in a day. So he killed the hen. But he did not get even a single egg.
He lost not only the golden eggs but the hen also.
Moral: Greed is a curse
